ORNITHOLOGICAL SOCIETY.

Robert Naismith reports in his book Stonehouse (published 1885) that this society was formed several years ago.  From research carried out a newspaper article in the Glasgow Herald on Monday 10th December 1877 it is reported that the society held their first exhibition and from this we can assume that the society was probably formed 1876 or 1877.  We also note from a further article that the society held  its sixth exhibition  on 3rd January, 1883, in the Hill School and this attracted competitors from Paisley, Glasgow, Kilmarnock, Galston, Wishaw, Motherwell, Lanark and Avondale

In 1885 The  office-bearers are Messrs. William Millar, President; Matthew Stewart, secretary ; and  John Sorbie, treasurer.
