Burns Suppers have been celebrated in Stonehouse since at least 1860’s.

A former butcher from the village, John Law or Low, was said to have been a former founder of an early Burns 0rganisation however we have no formal records of this.

We have documentation that outlines the formation of the Airts Society when 0n 5th March 1971 George McInness, Dick Gibb, James Curr, James Watt and Hugh Murray held a meeting between 27 Robert Burns enthusiasts whereby they formed the “A the Airts Society”.   At this meeting the following were elected as committee members.

President:                   James Curr

Vice President:          George McInnes

Secretary:                   Dick Gibb

Treasurer:                   James Watt.

“A the Airts” Burns club was now a formal organisation and went onto become a member of the Robert Burns World Federation.

The group meets  from September to May, residents and visitors of all ages have met to have a ‘richt guid night’ in song and prose to celebrate the bard and join in friendship. Anyone is welcome to come along and participate and enjoy an evening of music, song and verse.
